Richard Bellia

A quick one - I'm trying to see what I can produce in a couple of hours and perhaps see if there could be a market for these things. After a bit more practise I might get quite fast at them.

A couple of hours? Wow! You have such a distinctive style I'm sure there would be a demand.

I'm not sure but it was wifeys idea. I do cheat on them a tiny bit but I think if I could knock somethin passable out in a couple of hours and charge say £25.00 then that would be worthwhile. Thats the thing with the cartoons - they are much more enjoyable but at 40 hours plus to complete theres no way in the world you can sell them at anything like the money its worth in man hours. These are a doddle - so I'm practicing practicing. I'll try and see if I can do any ladies over the weekend - or will they still look butch.....

This took an hour and a half and two pints of Guinness in the pub last night plus ten minutes or so to stick some black ink in the background.
My job is so bloody perilous feeling at the moment I'm exploring other options - this being one and I'm even half considering , if i get made redundant, going back to college - Thats Lures bad influence for you... No I figure if the worst happens job wise - if I'm going to be skint I might as well be skint trying something I like with a view to the future.

This is brilliant but who is he? I'm so sorry but I haven't got a clue who he is. This is probably going to be really embarrassing for me now.

Only the other week I told you to start selling your work and what did you say?!!! I do believe you said no and look what has now happened! Make a fancy web site and start selling your work...

Hell. Didn't realise things were so bad, job wise. But I agree. Going back to college is always a good option. Increase your opportunities, though I would say that. I was in education far too long and now look at me...

Wish I could go and do an art course too. But that, as you say, is Lure's influence and denying a few realities such as my inability to draw and unwillingness to draw other men sitting naked in the middle of the room. I hear that's the sort of thing they get up to in art school...

PS. £25 a picture? Sounds a bit low. I've noticed a few people selling drawings online and they seem to charge a lot more for considerably less. You need to think about creating work that will suit the average living room. Think popular curtain colours...

Can I say that I'm at university not college. You can't imagine how many of my friends ask me how I'm getting on at college! My dad even asks me what I have been doing at college. There is nothing wrong with studying at college but I have never been. I went to art school but never college. Actually I will be one of the few going to university when they bring the higher fees in.

What is wrong with drawing naked men? I was going to write something about muscle and bone but I'm best not to. I was thinking about anatomy before you ask. I'm sure someone on here once offered to let me draw them naked. That person was very good at the pans pipe pose or something. I can't remember the name of the position! You know who you are!

Stan, you must stop putting yourself down, criticising yourself... You are a brilliant cartoonist/artist. You also wrote the funniest book I have ever read.

Stu, you need to make yourself a posh website and start selling your work. And like Mr Stan says you need to think about what the public want on their walls. Don't know what to say about your job. What a worry for you and Mrs BK.

Hello people out there reading BK's fabulous blog. I would like to recommend my favourite book to you... Second Class Male by Stan Madeley. Every page will have you LOLing. The man is a comic genius and totally bonkers. So off you go to Amazon...go on.

BK, do many people read your blog? You really need to change that dog picture! :-)

No - there's only us 3 I think!
Yes -I have been thinking I'll have to draw up some chav idols to get the folks interested in anything I do - but that shouldnt be so hard.
I just take work as it comes so not really worried - one door shuts and all that though having done my sums I dont think college is an option now - but maybe some other options.

Lure - I purposely did someone not well known this time although he is quite renowned in his own right - he's a photographer and stars in the Scabies book as sidekick number two. So no embarassment at not knowing who he is.

Yes Lure - its a change of mind a bit - but if I can do these in limited enough numbers to remain interesting for me and they dont take much time and I'm not emotionally attached to them then I might thing about selling a few - Also might be a case of needs must...
